Safe Space Talk: Unheard stories of LGBTQ Teens

Anne Hallward’s episode of Safe space talk was a very well put together and informative show. It touched on the struggles of LGBTQ teens and plenty of teens got to share their stories on the show. With there identities kept confidential, it created this anonymous place to share their struggles, feelings, and stories. Hallward does a great job, in my opinion, of promoting what  Epstein calls “Social Cohesion”. This is due to the fact that all these participating teens can come on air to tell there stories in a safe environment. Listening to other’s tell there stories can greatly impact other struggling LGBTQ teens. Also, the one’s who get the chance to tell their stories, get to release that emotion to the world in a safe and confidential way. One of the quotes that really stuck with me was from one of the girls who shared her story, “gender expression and sexual orientation have nothing to do with each other”. This is a powerful statement, that I think can resonate with a lot of teens and not just LGBTQ teens. Acting the way we do, by no means, has to relate to one’s sexual orientation. This statement, shared by a teen on the show, was possible to due Hallward’s push for social cohesion, and can impact the lives of struggling teens. The message is so powerful to me too, as a teen, especially with the strict gender roles that plague our society.

  4. I agree with you when you say it can resonate with more than just LGBTQ teens! Just a word for thought, maybe quote Epstein’s Social Cohesion definition so others can use it for reference! Great post!

  5. I think overall the writing just flows well you bring up social cohesion so smoothly each time but its not like its in every sentence.
