Idea for Brochure

Our Service is called “I Can’t Believe it’s not Plagiarism” and it’s a digital platform in which students who take organized and detailed notes can sell those notes to other students. One of the biggest things students say they don’t have is money and our company serves as a way for students to make money off of their academics. The brochure would be an advertisement for the company looking to hire. To be hired by the company, you have to be a vetted student who has completed the said course with a B or higher. They must have what is considered to be “very legible” notes with color coordinating nightly preferred. Students can apply to sell their notes through the website. This service would be for students taking some of the more challenging courses, such as Chemistry and Biology,  that have extensive amounts of lecture notes and practice problems. It’s kind of like online SASC but for the profit of the students and for the company. Images of well-done notes, a student looking happy while studying could be on the brochure. Also the addition of reviews on the service from students who have utilized the service. The “feel” of the brochure is going to be on the slightly humorous side directed at smart students who want to make money as a side gig at college.

Progress Report

For our brochure, I did a majority of the word content for the first draft of our brochure, as well as I created one version of a brochure in word. My role was also the initial idea creator but after discussing the idea, we both fleshed out a lot of the details for our company. The brochure is coming together nicely despite working remotely. Over the break, I wrote out a lot of the interest and desire portions of the brochure as well as a step by step on how to join the team. I then created a version of a brochure in word but after seeing what Caitlyn had done in google docs. It was decided that her version better captured all of our information and had it formatted better.

Our brochure should be ready to go for tomorrow’s workshop. Though I think what we could work on would be making it potentially a little more colorful and have a little more of a design to it but so far it looks great.

Working remotely has proven to be a challenge I find. As a person who prefers to communicate and collaborate in person 100% of the time, it’s new territory. Another challenge was being able to figure out a way for us both to work on the same document. This is why I decided to create my own version a few days ago in case we would not be able to use a shared document. Do it regret that; no,  cause I had some fun with it but found that we should use the sharable version anyways.

Reflection #1

The project is going pretty well so far. We have a solid idea that for the most part, we have fully fleshed out. I’d say that my role so far has been idea guys as I have created out an idea and thought through how it would actually work. In doing so I have laid out the broad picture for the interest of our service and how it would work. What I think we can improve upon is turning the ideas we have about the product into words and sentences that will do a good job of showing the appeal of our product. Considering this is a brochure, the words and the formatting of those have to be treated differently because you need to get the idea and the interest for the idea across with the little space you are given. We also need to find a good way of being able to collaborate on an online version of the brochure but I’m sure we will be able to figure that out. I have found that the benefits of collaborating are that we can bounce ideas off each other and have our ideas looked at with a different perspective to make them more practical and understandable. Also, different people bring different ideas and skills to the table, I find that I have lots of ideas sometimes but not all of them are great, and that is where Caitlyn has helped me to sort through those ideas.

Alaina and Destiny

Off the bat: So my first impression is that the design really jumps out to me. It’s certainly an eye-catcher. The company name is clearly there and it sparks interest immediately. My only issue with it without already knowing what you guys did, I would know it has something to do with clean feet but I couldn’t really the specificity of your product from the cover. I would want to have a pretty good idea of what exactly it is before I even open the brochure.

For the interesting part: I really like the simplicity of your design part. It’s easy to read and I get a good understanding of your product. I like how you guys intertwine some desire into your interest part too, it makes the product very desirable and something that I would consider buying if I was in need of one. I also like how the text blocks are uniform and don’t take up the whole page. I find with the colorfulness of your design the “white space” works well. Also, I really like the idea of being able to customize the product. The mission statement is great and does a good job of creating the professional vibe of the brochure. I am a huge fan of the Herbert part, though to improve that part I would possibly include more than one “review” and make sure that text is not overlapping with a change in the color of your background. That’s just of those nitty-gritty things.

Desire and call to action; I like what you guys have so far but I feel like you have room physically and metaphorically for more content with the desire. Try bringing out some of the emotions that this your product would provoke. Also for the call to action, I would add more than just contact information. I think a possibility would be to offer a limited-time deal or something that will make the person reading the brochure to have a sense of urgency to buy your product.

Stephanie and Jordan:

Off the bat: The cover is very catching with the images of humans and animals and I like the simplicity of the company name on the cover. While the cover doesn’t specifically say what the service does, it is heavily implied which I think is ok.

Interest: The formatting of the meat of the brochure is nicely done with all the pictures. For a service involving animals, it’s really good that lots of pictures were used to fill up all the negative space. You guys do a very good job of describing the service with clear and concise language that makes the brochure an easy read. The steps are clearly laid out. The process and service are clearly well thought out and I don’t see much room for improvement there. Although, this may just be me the 70$ a day seems kinda… not that great of a deal considering you have 5$ an hour. So unless someone thinks they will have the animal for more than 12 hours, they would never do the day deal. Just something to think about.

Desire: The first desire panel is really good.  The first desire text box does a really good job of bringing the potential feelings of your service to the audience’s mind. For the second to last panel, I feel like you guys could do more with that panel to build a desire for renting a pet. I also would add some diversity to the pictures on that panel as I’m sure you can find more pictures to use than three of basically the same image. I suggest building off of some of the emotional benefits of having the pet for a day. The call-to-action panel is really good with the coupon attached. I think that’s a great way to get people to have some urgency to use the service. Otherwise, I see clear ways of contacting the company. The overall feel is great for the kind of service you provide. All the pictures I feel for other kinds of services would feel clunky, but I feel like it words considering the purpose and the general theme is spending time with animals.
