Hope and Passion; Climate change and social change

Kingsolver is creating social change by inspiring change through passion and hope as well as self confidence. One of the major topics in this interview was climate change and she brings up some interesting discussion. She states, “Why can we not talk about climate change? How can we look at the evidence and not come away knowing the same thing?… Its about why we’re having a war of silence about it. ” A war is silence is exactly what is the main problem here behind why there isn’t more progress towards climate change. The problem lies in that people need to see something to believe it and often times climate change itself is hard to fully grasp because it’s not directly visual. Climate change is something that happens gradually over time and capturing evidence of it for the naked eye is a hard task. Kingsolver talks about how literature is one key way to open people’s eyes to the changing world around them. She states, “Novel are in interesting way to cultivate a person’s trust. I like reaching people with information that perhaps they wouldn’t have accepted if it had been presented in a nonfiction book. ” That trust is achieved through the human nature trait of curiosity and the need to want to know things, especially that have the potential to effect them.
