Workshop Reflection
I found that the peer editing for my resume was very helpful as the people in my group helped point things about that I wouldn’t have gotten without them. First I need to back in and look out for silly grammatical errors. I also need to change the formatting a little in my font sizes, header and leaving enough room for adding in the references. That would be a good start. My other thing would be to look at the dates and possibly format those a little better as they seemed to be a tight fit. I also will swap by study abroad up to below my education as it was apart of that and would seem to be a better fit there. Some much-needed changes are ahead but after I will feel very confident with the look and feel of my resume. I feel that it shows my drive as it’s full of relevant information that will look good to a potential employer. Having other people look at my work is something I need to have done more often. Having looked at the other resumes in the group, it is nice to get a contrast to see what ideas I could bring to mind but also see what I like about mine compared to differences in my peers. Overall a good workshop.
Project Reflection
Updating my resume for this class helped my confidence in creating my resume by wonders. Before this class, my resume was in need of dire help and the workshopping gave me the opportunity to put it through many drafts to finally feel comfortable with where it is. A few things I learned through this process, that formatting is everything and finding that sweet spot in the formatting is a crucial part of creating a great resume. What I found was that I had enough relevant information to fit two pages which also helps make my resume look full and like someone has accomplished a lot, which I like to think I have. Another thing I learned in the process is to make every part count which means that every word on the resume counts and that it should have value to it. Word choice when conveying the skills you want to show the employer is crucial to having a good resume. Another aspect was the placement of each part of the resume, making sure that the order of things makes sense and does a good job of showing me off in a way that makes sense. Overall, this resume workshopped helped a lot and I am grateful for the lessons it taught me.
